Following is an introduction to the proceedings:
The Third Conference of the International Alliance of the Indigenous-Tribal Peoples of the Tropical Forests was planned to be held in Nagpur,
India in March 1997, bringing together 125 members of the Alliance, which includes representative organisations of tropical forest dwellers from
all around the globe. The Conferences are the central to the functioning of the Alliance, enabling indigenous forest peoples to develop concrete
strategies to increase indigenous participation in international decision - making in the areas of human rights, ecological justice, social
development, culture and education, and facilitate indigenous policy formulation, intervention and collaboration at regional and international
levels.
